Things to Consider When Storing Wine Bottles

Those just beginning to appreciate wine and its collection usually discover that the first issue to consider is proper wine storage. The wine that you have on hand can always taste amazing as long as you take the proper steps to store it.

For the most part, you'll find that wine should be consumed completely after it has been uncorked. However, you can always decant leftover wine into a smaller bottle to save it. This can truly protect the taste and body of a wine and keep it from going down hill.

When you are storing bottles of unopened wine, you'll find that the criteria for keeping your wine tasting well are quite simple. Temperature is one of the first things that you will need to think about. Decide on a location that is cool and where the temperature will not fluctuate a great deal. It is best to keep your wine in a well insulated room, so that it will not be spoiled by high temperatures. High and low temperatures, especially when the change is very rapid can easily destroy the taste of your wine, so be careful.

When storing wine, one thing to remember is what you place in the same storage area with the wine. Not all of us are lucky enough to have whole cellars devoted to wine, but you'll find that just by taking a few precautions that your wine can stay good for long periods of time. Make sure that you keep your wine away from any chemicals in the air. This means keeping it away from workshops or places where it might come in contact with paint cans or other similar substances.

Before storing the wine you should aware that wine should be kept in a calm, vibration free area. Even these slight changes can negatively affect the flavor so a cool room with little to no natural light is preferable.

Finding an adequate storage location for your wine does not require that you remove it from view. Your collection of wine can actually be part of your decor. When it comes to storing wine, there are many ways that wine bottles can be displayed. You can have a few bottles on hand for your kitchen in a nice wooden wine rack. Perhaps an elegant wine storage cabinet for a living room where you entertain guests.

Regardless of where you decide to store your wine, you will enjoy your wine both now and later if you make certain that you have stored it correctly.

Wine of the Month Clubs

Why Should I Choose A Wine Club?

If you have someone very special that you would like to buy a sophisticated gift for, say a supervisor or a very close friend with very discerning tastes, a wine of the month club would be an excellent choice. Wine can make a great impact, especially when it is one that appeals to the recipient’s palate. With a wine of the month club you can introduce your special somebody to many new experiences that they may not have had the opportunity to explore.

With wines available from either domestic or international sources, a wine of the month club makes great gifts for the gourmand or wine fancier in your life. It can also make a very nice corporate gift as well.

What Club Should I Choose?

The decision of which club to choose can sometimes seem a little difficult at first. With so many wine clubs available, how do you know which one to pick? Knowing your price range is very important. With clubs offering monthly subscriptions from $30 all the way to $1,000 or more, there are numerous monthly wine clubs that can meet the constraints of anyone’s budget. One thing to keep in mind is that most good wine clubs offer free shipping. This alone can be a real wallet saver considering the cost of mailing packages in today’s economy.

Another choice you must make is what kind of selection you would like have available. Some clubs offer a limited selection as to which types of wine their patrons may receive such as red, white, or a selection of both. Others will actually let their patrons choose whether they want a dessert wine, dinner wine, etc. If you are looking for a high-end gift it is possible to sign your loved one up for an international wine club. They will then receive a monthly selection from different countries. This would make a very special gift that would be enjoyed by many. It is exciting to see just what country the next wine will come from.

What Are Some Possible Drawbacks?

You must keep in mind, while it is voluntary to be in the club you may not be able to return wines you do not like. Many do however offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee that will allow you to discontinue your membership at any time. Another possible drawback is that you may enter your intended recipient into a wine club that supplies wines that they do not care for. Maybe you set them up to receive Cabernet and they only really like a good Merlot. Some clubs will allow you to change the terms of your membership to include wines more to your liking. This is one thing to especially keep in mind when choosing which wine of the month club in which you want to enroll.

Salut!

No matter which wine of the month club membership you decide to give as a gift you have chosen well. A gift of wine shows refinement and taste. One thing you may find while perusing the different clubs is that you could want to sign up for a membership as well. They say that the best treat for a person is the one they give themselves. Well, go ahead and enjoy! What better way to learn which wines would make a good gift than to try them out yourself?

How To Build A Home Wine Cellar

Building a wine cellar is the best way to store your wine collection in top condition. A cellar should be designed to correctly store wine as it ages, ensuring that the wine develops complexity as the winemaker intended.

Building your own home wine cellar from scratch may seems like a daunting process, but the first step that proverbially applies to climbing mountains applies to wine cellars, too. It all begins with collecting the first bottle and eventually finding that your collection has grown so large that it requires a cellar.

A well-insulated wine cellar can cost many thousands of dollars to construct but so can a large refrigerated wine cabinet so often the custom built home wine cellar is the more economical and cost effective way of storing your wine.

Consider the following before your start building a wine cellar.

A wine cellar is usually built with thicker walls. Two-by-six construction allows for better insulation, allowing the cellar to remain at a constant temperature. In an active (as opposed to passive) wine cellar, the temperature and humidity are maintained by a climate control system.

Temperature should be a chief consideration and also the amount of natural light. Ensure the room is well insulated – extruded polystyrene insulation is ideal. Those living in a mild climate you may be able to create a passive cellar that requires no cooling system.

Temperature swings can destroy your wine collection. Small temperature fluctuations from season to season will not damage the wine but those same fluctuations of a daily or weekly basis will cause your wine to age prematurely. Temperature should stay between 45 and 60 degrees F, and exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided. Thus, you can often successfully create a wine cellar in a closet and humidity between 50% and 80% are ideal for all types of wine.

When storing wine all vibration should be avoided; it agitates the bottles and speeds up the chemical reactions taking place inside the bottle – and not in a desirable way.

Vibration is a major issue during the transportation and is the reason most shippers recommend allowing your wine to rest after extended travel. This is important, also, when you buy wine from a winery or even from your local wine outlet. Never take it home and pull the cork out without allowing it to rest. In fact, all wine should be put immediately into your cellar.

It should be noted that it is not only your wine which is valuable; the wine cellar itself will add value to your home. So the better-constructed and larger your cellar, the more the value of your house goes up as well.

A wine cellar is generally a lower temperature environment compared with its surrounding living spaces and therefore must be treated differently in relation to those spaces. Should your wine cellar require cooling do not install a domestic air conditioning unit. Home air conditioning removes the humidity from the air and will quickly destroy your wine collection by drying out the corks. There are several brands of wine cellar cooling units available that will cool any size wine cellar. Your wine cellar makes a personal statement about you, and will become the most important area in your home. It is the place where you can indulge your passion for fine wine and where you can display your precious acquisitions to friends and family. Discover how to build your own wine cellar and, if you have the space, why not consider incorporating a bar and tasting area.

However, it is all the more better if you get to learn a bit about the drinks that you can appreciate and enjoy.

In case of first time wine drinkers a less expensive variety can be tried out first and your likings figured out thus over time without having to shell out too many bucks. Visiting a good winery and trying out what they offer helps.

The color of the wine is produced by the influence of a number of factors like grape variety used, their degree of ripeness, their area of production, their method of production and the age of the wine. Aging of wine is associated with slow oxidation that produces the effect of brown coloring being acquired. Color serves as an indication of the body of the wine. While light bodied wines are light in color those having fuller bodies have deeper color. So, preferences of wines of different consistencies can be sorted out as per deepness of color.

There needs to be evolved a conscious, deliberate awareness in order to develop a true appreciation of wine. You need to delve deep and extend efforts to develop an understanding for discovering the special, unique personality of each wine variety.

The different options of taking a class, joining a wine tasting group, visiting a winery, buying samples of varieties for tasting can be weighed as measures advocated for developing appreciation and enjoyment of wine. However, the best way to go about with the venture is to find a worthy guide- a connoisseur of wine. Local wine merchants, wine-bar operators and even knowledgeable bartenders who are experienced in serving and/or drinking wine may qualify as suitable guides. Tasting good yet unfamiliar wines as often as possible will certainly make you more and more appreciative of the drink’s qualities and you will be increasingly enjoying sipping in from glassfuls of it.

Tips of wine experts for appreciating and enjoying your wine

As per wine experts’ suggestions any wine drink’s qualities may be best appreciated and enjoyed by-

Where to purchase Absinthe Essence

Absinthe is a strong liquor which is generally between 45 and 75% ABV (alcohol by volume), about twice as strong as other types of alcoholic beverages such as whisky and vodka.

Otherwise known as “The Green Fairy” or “La Fee Verte”, Absinthe was the drink associated with La Belle Epoque and Bohemian Paris. It was given to French soldiers in the 1840s to treat malaria and they brought the drink home with them. Absinthe bars opened all over Paris and special Absinthe hours or “L'heure verte” took place daily. By the middle of the 19th century Pernod, distillers of Absinthe, were making over 30,000 liters of Absinthe every day for the French people to buy!

About Absinthe History

Legend says that Dr Pierre Ordinaire created Absinthe in the Swiss town of Couvet in the 18th century as an elixir or tonic for his patients. The Absinthe recipe eventually got into the hands of Henri-Louis Pernod who first distilled Absinthe in Couvet and then later in Pontarlier, France under the name of Pernod Fils.

Pernod used a wine base and various herbs including common wormwood (artemisia absinthium), aniseed, fennel, lemon balm, hyssop, angelica, dittany, star anise, nutmeg and juniper.

Famous drinkers of the Green Fairy were Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Oscar Wilde, Ernest Hemingway, Degas, Gauguin, Verlaine and Baudelaire.

Absinthe became more popular than wine, In France, and the prohibition movement campaigned to get Absinthe banned because:-

- Thujone, in wormwood, was thought to be similar to THC in cannabis and thought to be psychoactive.
- Absinthe was linked with the loose morals of the artists, writers and courtesans of Montmartre.
- Absinthe was thought to have psychedelic effects, to cause hallucinations, convulsions and to drive people insane.

It was even claimed that an Absinthe drinker murdered his whole family – just the excuse that the prohibition movement were looking for to persuade the government to ban Absinthe. The buying, selling and consumption of Absinthe in France was made illegal in France in 1915 and in many other countries around this time.

Many studies have shown that Absinthe, including vintage Absinthe, only contains very small amounts of thujone and is perfectly safe to drink. Absinthe has been legalized in many countries since the 1990s and here has been an Absinthe revival in many countries, including the USA who have only recently allowed a few brands to go on sale.

About Absinthe Essences

To enjoy Absinthe, you can either order bottles of Absinthe online or you can make your own Absinthe using essences from AbsintheKit.com. These essences are used by the Absinthe industry and are made using traditional herbal ingredients such as wormwood, aniseed and fennel. Simply mix with either Everclear or vodka to make your very own Absinthe. There are four different types of essence available.

About Absinthe Preparation

The correct way to prepare Absinthe is to follow the ritual:-

- Pour 25-50ml Absinthe into an Absinthe glass.
- Rest a slotted Absinthe spoon on the top of the glass.
- Place a sugar cube on the spoon.
- Drip iced water over the sugar using an Absinthe fountain or pour slowly from a carafe.
- Watch the Absinthe louche.
- Drink your wonderful Absinthe drink.

I hope you have now learned all about Absinthe, the mysterious drink with a very interesting past and a great taste.

The Best Way To Show Your Wine Collection Is With A Wrought Iron Wine Rack

Many connoisseurs of fine wines enjoy many different aspects of "the good life." In most instances, this is reflected in the environment they create in their homes that show their affinity for the finer things and for style. For such collectors of wine, a wrought iron wine rack is often a centerpiece in their home that helps them properly display at least a portion of their collection.

Wrought iron wine racks have been popular for decades because they do add a sense of old-world grace and charm, while being very sturdy. Of course, it is important that wine racks are able to stand up to a load and not weaken under the weigh of an extensive collection of fine wines. But at the same time, no one wants their collection of fine dessert wines, red wines and white wines housed in something ugly and purely utilitarian.

It is this aspect where a wrought iron rack really stands out. The iron wine racks are virtually indestructible and yet some of the finest pieces of art have been forged in wrought iron.

It seems those who build wrought iron wine rack units are often skilled craftsmen and even artisans who seem to be able to draw artistry from the iron pieces. This often results in the creation of iron wine racks that are much more than a place to store wine, but are often considered an artistic sculpture.

You would have to search diligently to find a wrought iron rack that is boring. Such a thing is almost impossible to find, but occasionally one will crop up that was clearly made by someone uninspired and only able to make the most utilitarian of a wine storage rack unit.

But, in most cases you will find that the wrought iron racks have beautifully detailed craftsmanship and creative design elements that fit easily into many types of decor. There is a wide variety of designs and styles to be found in these metal wine racks and they inevitably bring a touch of elegance and sophistication to any setting.

You might choose a wrought iron rack as a decorative counter-top or table-top element that adds a distinctive touch to the room. These small wine racks hold just a few bottles of wine in most cases, but some also incorporate wine glass racks into them, which not only increases their functionality but also adds more sparkle to the table.

There is a common type of wrought iron rack that is somewhat larger than the table-top model, but still smaller than a full sized rack. It is called a floor stand. This style of metal wine rack usually holds between six and twelve bottles and it is popular because it takes up much less space that the full-size model, and because it is designed to sit on the floor it does not take up valuable table-top space either. It can often be used in a corner or in an nook that might otherwise go unused.

Another full-size style of a wrought iron wine rack that is also quite popular is the "wine jail." As the name implies, it can be locked to protect valuable vintages from theft is that is a concern. At the same time, it still is a piece that is beautiful and will add to any decor while providing an extra measure of security.

Why some people would pay outlandish retail prices for wine racks and accessories is a mystery. There are many great online retailers that offer incredible discounts and sales on wines and accessories to enjoy your glass of wine. Nice crystal flutes for champagne, wine glasses that tinkle when touched against each other and more are just the start of what these stores have in stock. You do not have to pay those high prices and you should not. Do some looking around to find the best deals. Wooden Wine Rack Evokes Both Elegant Beauty As Well As Warmth

For those who simply love all aspects of fine wines, relishing wonderful dessert wines is an experience that involves all of the senses, a full sensory adventure. This is one reason why so many wine connoisseurs have a tendency to select a wooden wine rack to house their important collection of special wines because of the beauty, warmth and function that wood offers.

Fine woods are inviting to the eye with their grains and textures and warm tones. A finely crafted wooden rack also seems to warm to the touch and exudes not only a sense of strength and durability, but also a sense of amiability that is inviting.

Aside from the aesthetic reasons for choosing a wooden wine rack to protect your collection of fine vintages, there are some very practical reasons for choosing wine storage cabinets made of wood. One of these reasons is the fact that wood is one of the best materials for absorbing vibrations.

When wine is aging, it needs to be kept as still as possible to allow it to settle and not be disturbed. There are many low level vibrations that people become accustomed to and are actually not aware of that can interfere with the proper aging process of a fine wine. Storing your wine bottles in a wooden rack will help to lessen the vibrations because the wood itself can absorb much of them.

Another very practical reason for selecting a wooden rack to store your wine collection is that wood is a very durable material. This is especially true of fine hardwoods which are often used in crafting wine racks. Of course, the quality of the construction is important as well, so you will want to be sure that you choose units that have been well-built.

This is actually a rather simple criterion to meet, as most of the wooden units are built by craftsmen who take pride in their work and who have a fine eye for detail. Because of this, quality wood wine racks can be rather expensive, but this is considered essential to wine aficionados who want to assure that the investment they have made in their wines is well protected.

There is a huge variety of wooden styles that can be found to meet virtually all wine storage needs. They range from quite small units that may only hold six to nine bottles of wine all the way to custom, built in wine racks that might encompass a whole room or fill a custom wine cellar.

The wooden wine rack also continues to be a popular selection for wine collectors because they can be purchased as a wine rack kit or they can be custom made, and either will fit well with any type of decor. They can be custom finished with a stain or made of a specific wood that will match your other furnishings and fit right into the decorating scheme.

A wine rack is to wine as hands are to the arm. They are an extension and a useful tool for your wine collection. Sure you will need bottle openers, wine racks and corks but you can find those accessories online. They may be a whole lot cheaper than going to an expensive specialty or wine store to find what you need to begin your wine collection. Saving money does not make you cheap nor does it mean that you have to get cheap merchandise. You can find quality accessories at great prices if you shop around online at different stores. Wine Storage Racks Help To Maintain Cherished Wine Collections Secure

People who are serious about their wine collecting endeavors are often not satisfied to store their collection of fine wines in a hum-drum storage cabinet. Having invested a good amount of money in just the right wines, hobbyists prefer to have a way to properly display their finds. Decorative wine storage racks can be just the right choice for such collectors who are eager to showcase their bottles of wine in the proper way, with the dignity and artistry their collection deserves.

In most instances, decorative storage racks are designed to appeal to the wine collector who has taste and style and who wants their wine display to be able to fit into an upscale decor. They want their collection of fine dessert wines, white wines and red wines to be housed in something that does not stand out as a sore thumb, but instead fits in perfectly with the overall environment of the living space.

But, these attractive wine storage racks are not only decorative and beautiful to look at, as they serve very functional purposes as well. First, they are designed to hold the wine bottles very securely so that there is virtually no chance that the bottles will slip and end up breaking.

Secondly, all good wine racks, whether they are meant to sit in a dark corner and not be seen or are showpieces in and of themselves, will be built so that the wine bottles rest in the proper position to keep the cork moist. If the cork is allowed to dry out by setting the bottle upright for a long period of time, then it is likely that the seal will be broken. This will allow air to seep into the bottles, which will ruin the taste.

Beautiful wine racks must also be sturdy. The last thing you want to happen is for the rack to tip over, breaking the collected bottles. Also, vibration is not good for the aging of wine, so the sturdier, the better. This is why you will find that most quality wine storage solutions will either be solid wood wine racks or wrought iron wine racks.

Wine racks come in a wide variety of sizes and styles to meet the needs of just about any wine collector. There are large built in wine racks that are often installed in custom wine cellars. There are wine storage cabinets that are similar in size to a large armoire and that can hold a few dozen bottles in a small collection. And, there are the smaller racks that are designed to just hold a few bottles.

The small-sized wine storage racks are often used by people who have large collections, and who might even have their own wine cellar, as a convenient place to store a few bottles of their collection for quick and easy access. At the same time, for people with very limited space, they often use these small racks as the primary place to house the wine collection they are just starting.

How Wine Rack Kits Furnishes Change and High Value

Wine lovers clearly enjoy being able to have a variety of their favorite wines close by, and they know that once they buy them they will only improve as they age, if the bottles are stored correctly. Often avid wine hobbyists expend a great deal of time and effort in choosing wines for their collections and they usually have paid a pretty penny for the vintages they want. Making sure their collection is stored properly is essential and wine rack kits can fill this need affordably.

Most every wine aficionado knows that wine bottles need to be stored horizontally, which keeps the cork moist and keeps it from drying out. A dried out cork will shrink, which in turn will allow oxygen to get into your bottles of dessert wines, red wines and white wines and spoil the product. The purpose of wine rack kits is to allow you to build a wine rack that is the perfect place to keep your treasured wines secure and horizontal.

Making sure that the bottles are kept at a temperature that does not fluctuate too much and that stays in the range of 50 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit is what will allow for the best results in aging. Wine rack kits allow you to build your own wine rack that you can set up in a cool and quite corner of a basement or in a cellar, if one is available, so that the bottles don't go through the normal temperature cycles of the living environment.

You can certainly buy a pre-fabricated wine rack that is all put together and ready to fill up with your bottles, and many people go this route when they are looking for a good way to store their wines. But many times you can save money on kits and many wine lovers would much prefer to spend their hard earned dollars on the wine itself, rather than on the wine rack.

One of the advantages of building the wine rack in your home from a wine racks kit is that you have a broader selection of materials from which to choose. This allows you to select the materials that fit in best with your decor. With a kit, you can choose to build a wood wine rack or a metal wine rack.

A kit also provides for a greater choice in the design of the finished piece as well. One of the reasons for the wider selection is that, for the retailer who sells the items, a wine rack kit is much easier to store than pre-built wine racks. Since the kits take up less space, the retailer can stock a wider variety of styles and options in the same amount of space, which ultimately gives the consumer a better chance of finding the perfect design that will fit into their decor scheme.

Many internet retailers have terrific selections of wine rack kits. Some of these online retailers also give you free shipping, and since these kits are generally heavy, this can be a good savings. This can also save you time, as you can avoid the hassle of running all over town to find the right wine storage rack to fit into your home. No matter where you decide to buy your wine rack kit, be sure that you opt for quality over price because you want to be sure the rack is good and sturdy enough to protect your wine collection.

Wine Racks - An Excellent Way To Collect And Show Your Wine Collection

Those who enjoy the hobby of tasting and collecting wines are usually passionate about having an assortment of wonderful wines around them so they can enjoy them at any time. Also, wine lovers enjoy being able to share their special finds in wines and like to have some extra bottles available to be able to share at their next dinner party or to serve as dessert wines. One important aspect of keeping quality wines is making sure they are stored correctly and securely in wine racks.

A great wine rack allows the wine to be stored properly so that the bouquet of the blend is preserved. Unfortunately, as all winemakers know, wine can be rather fickle and changes can happen over time, especially if it is exposed to oxygen. Storing the bottles horizontally will assure that the wine is constantly in contact with the cork. This in turn keeps the cork moist and elastic and will keep it from drying out.

If the cord ends up drying out, then it will shrink up and inevitably the seal will be broken. This will allow oxygen to get into the bottle and mingle with the spirits. Soon the wine will oxidize and the taste will be ruined, usually turning vinegary. This factor is why all of the wine racks sold are specifically designed to securely store the wine bottles on their side to make sure that the cork stays covered by the wine.

In addition to being maintained in a horizontal position, wine should also be stored in a space that is both cool and dark. It is also best if the bottles are not exposed to strong odors or to ongoing vibrations. As with most things, keeping the wine cool helps to preserve the taste, but be sure that it doesn't get too cold or is ever in danger of freezing. A cool, stable temperature is the best environment.

For many people, a basement is the perfect solution to keeping the wine in the best environment possible. Wine should be stored in darkness in order to eliminate the chance of chemical reactions that can be initiated by exposure to light.

However, because vibrations keep the wine from settling and properly maturing, you need to be sure that your wine rack is not placed near an area where machinery is often used. Avoid placing the wine rack in areas such as laundry rooms, mechanical rooms, garages, boilers rooms or any other place where vibrations can interfere with the wine being able to age slowly and fully. Also, avoid any room that is subject to strong odors, as the cork is absorbent and strong odors could end up affecting the taste as well.

There are many kinds of wine racks on the market that can fit any space and meet any need. You can choose to have a wine cellar construction crew make a custom wine cellar for you or you can purchase a stackable wine rack to hold just a few bottles. There is no limit to the types of storage options available for wine.

What better way to enjoy the look of those expensive bottles of wine than to present them in wine racks? You do not have to pay an arm and a leg for the racks though. Some stores, especially retail stores, will charge extravagant prices for wine accessories. Stop handing them your hard earned money. There are online retail shops that can get you a much better price for the accessories you need. You will be shocked at the selection of accessories and products that these online shops have in stock. How Metal Wine Racks Gives Elegant Grace And Strong Protection To Your Wine Collection

Metal wine racks can be an excellent selection when choosing the best way to display and protect your collection of favorite, special and rare wines. Not only are metal racks strong, sturdy and durable, but they usually reflect a high degree of artistic flair. Many times people are struck with the intricate designs that they feature and the fine details and wonderful workmanship and consider them more as a piece of art than a storage unit or a cellar rack.

But even aside from the aesthetics of wine racks and the beauty that they lend to any setting where they are found, they are also very practical. A wrought iron wine rack is a durable piece of furniture that has a practical purpose of safeguarding a wine collection. And, because of the material it is made from it will very likely become a family heirloom that is passed down from generation to generation. When properly cared for there is no saying how long a metal wine rack can provide serviceable function in great style for your collection of dessert wines, red wines or white wines.

There is a wide array of styles to choose from in metal wine racks to meet different needs for storage and to fit within available space. The smallest wine racks hold just one bottle and can be used easily in a kitchen setting or even at the table during dinner. There are also mid-sizes that are designed to sit on countertops to full-size wine storage racks that can hold several dozen wine bottles.

When it comes to the large wine racks made of metal, the styles vary from those that are very much like cabinets that have rows of holes to support the wine bottles on their sides in a very neat and orderly fashion. These would be considered more of a traditional wine storage rack and they will fit well against a wall. Some have doors that close, and can even be locked if necessary, giving them the feel of an armoire except that they are not solid.

There are also more flowing designs and shapes. Some have very curvaceous frames and the spaces for the wine bottles are cleverly worked into the design and there is not the appearance of strict rows or shelves. With this type, the back is usually flat so they also work against walls. Because of the flowing design, this type of wine storage rack generally will hold fewer bottles of wine but some people prefer the more flowing feel to the overall shape of the piece.

There are large sized metal racks that have even more of a free-flow pattern to them, and one of the most striking that has been seen is designed to look very much like a tree with branches that appear to drape. These unique wine racks have spaces intertwined into the tree form where you can place the wine bottles upside down and they appear to almost become part of the tree. While fun and engaging, this type of metal wine rack also requires the right kind of setting and plenty of space to allow it to be appreciated.

The table-top metal wine racks that are available usually come in a variety of sizes. They range from a medium size unit that will hold six to eight wine bottles, which are most often used on countertops in kitchens or sideboards in a dining room, to a small rack that holds one bottle and is usually used to hold the wine during the dinner.

Wine Accessories - Which Ones Do You Need To Have?

When you reach a point to start having dinner parties for your friends and family, then it becomes important for you to begin serving wine. Beer and wine coolers are ideal for football parties as well as backyard barbecues.

However, when the meal is penne pasta as well as clam sauce then your best beer likely is not going to be a big hit. Regardless of whether you are planning to serve wine just one time in your life, or to begin collecting and serving wine frequently, there are some wine accessories that you will certainly need to have.

Wine Accessories for the One-Time Dinner with Wine Party:

To go along with your selection of wine at your next dinner party, there are some wine accessories that you need to buy. The initial item is clearly the glasses. Even though some people will think it is eclectic to serve wine inside of water glasses, many of your guests will see this as a sign of bad taste.

When you go shopping for wine glasses, you will soon learn that there is a huge range of both prices and styles that are available. If this occasion is a rare event in your home, then you can simply purchase the more simple, clear and low cost glasses that will complement your table without the end result of bleeding your wallet dry like some selections might.

One of the next accessories that you will want to get is a means to identify each individuals glass so that there will be no confusion in the event that your guests decide to get up from the table and walk around with their glass in hand.

There are excellent charms that you can purchase or that you can make yourself with a small amount of beads, wire and a little creativity. If you don't find that appealing, then you can try small pieces of unique colored ribbon and bow ties  around the stems of the wine glasses. Granted, glass designators are not something that is absolutely needed wine accessories, yet they do make it more convenient for your guests.

An additional important wine accessory to own is a corkscrew. Unless you are looking to spend an inordinate amount of time trying to dig a cork out with a knife, then you need to get a corkscrew. Corkscrews are available in numerous types of sizes as well as styles and also are priced anywhere from expensive to low cost. Again if this an accessory that you are only thinking of using on rare occasions, then purchase yourself an inexpensive one such as a fold up variety kind that you will end up storing in your kitchen drawer neatly

Wine Accessories For The Up and Coming Connoisseur

In addition to the glasses, wine designators as well as the corkscrew that will be required to begin collecting when you are serving wine often, there are some other accessories you will need to add to your shopping list. The first needing mention is a vacuum pump.

Once you open up any type of bottle of wine, in the past it was impossible to store it, nowadays you can quite easily store a bottle of wine for a day or two through the use of a vacuum pump. These valuable little items cost roughly fifteen dollars and function by literally vacuuming out the excess air that is contained within the bottle by way of a slit in the top of the rubber replacement cork.

An additional wine accessory that you need to think about is a wine rack. There are both smaller as well as larger types that have a correspondingly diverse cost factor involved; nevertheless, one of the more practical styles are the type that you can stack on top of one another. This way as your collection grows, so too will your wine rack.

As you can tell, whether you select to have a single dinner party or if you are thinking of spending a lifetime savoring wine with your various friends, there are wine accessories that you will need to  take into consideration. However, provided that you begin with the basics, you will never need to concern yourself about missing wine accessories and you can always build from that point on.

What Newbies Need To Learn About Numerous Kinds Of Wines

Throughout history wine has been very popular. In many different places throughout the world there have been many types of wines created over the years. Some of the most well liked wines are the white wine, red wine, the table wine, as well as the sparkling wine and the cooking wine.

Within these various wine groups there are also are sub types to them. Nevertheless, because these different elements are so numerous and varied to mention and may simply confuse the beginner; we will go into the four most popular kinds of wines.

The White and Red Wines

In terms of the popularity of wines, the red wine as well as the white wine are constantly on the top of the rankings. Numerous individuals throughout the world enjoy drinking these kinds of wines during as well as after having dinner. In the majority of European nations, it is very common for the people there to drink red and white wines. As a matter of fact, numerous Europeans would not think of their meal as complete if they don't have a glass of wine.

The question often arises of; what determines a wines color? The answer is quite simple; the absence or the presence of the skin on the grapes determines a wines color. To produce white wine the skin of the grape is removed prior to extracting the juice.

On the other hand, the production of red wine happens by allowing the red skin or the grapes to come into contact with the juice while the fermentation process is happening. Because the majority of the flavor is concentrated on it's skin, it is typical for red wine to have a stronger flavor in comparison to white wine.

Because white wine has a flavor that is light it usually goes well with meals that are subtly flavored as well as meals that are light. In contrast red wine is more ideally suited for meals with a stronger flavor.

The Sparkling Wine

An additional type of wine that is popular is the sparkling wine. Sparkling wines have a higher level of carbon dioxide which is manifested in it's bubbly consistency. There are some wines that  have much lesser amounts of carbon dioxide which is in direct contrast to sparkling wines that are purposely injected with carbon dioxide during the process of fermentation to give it a fizzing effect when consumed.

Numerous people refer to the sparkling wine as champagne style wines. Because this kind of wine fizzle is very much like there champagne counterpart, numerous people choose to use this kind of wine in place of champagne during times of celebrations.

The Table Wine

Another kind of wine is the table wine which has become very popular over the years. In this type of wine there is a greater content of alcohol compared to other kinds of wines. In the USA, the level of alcohol content of table wine if just within the 8.5% and the 14.5% content range. However, in the regions of Europe, table wines typically contain more than 14% alcohol.

Wine Glass Racks Display - Safeguard Your Fine Items

Many times when people go on winery tours and learn about the many facets of wine making and wine tasting, they develop a real passion and strive to collect fine wines, to share with family and friends. Often these wine aficionados also find that the wine glasses that they serve their wonderful wine finds in have become an important part of their hobby, and they end up also collecting beautiful stemware. As the fine glassware collection grows, it is a good idea to invest in wine glass racks to properly display and protect the glasses.

Wine racks made from glass also allow for ready access to the stemware whenever the time is right to imbibe in a favorite vino, or celebrate a special moment. In addition to providing a way to display the wine glasses and keeping them accessible, they also are designed to help keep the glasses secure and safe from harm and accident.

As with just about any accessory for the home today, there are a number of materials from which wine glass racks can be made. Decorative metal and iron are both popular, as are different types of wood. In most cases, the wine glass rack is designed to be decorative, but not too showy because it should function as a showcase and not overshadow the glass stemware.

Acrylic is a material that has recently been introduced for wine racks. An acrylic stemware rack tends to bring a more modern feel to the decor than either the wood or metal racks do. Usually the acrylic racks are sleeker and fit in best with a contemporary style. Acrylic racks are also very durable and can be used in many settings, even for outdoor entertaining.

Often glass wine racks are attached to a wine storage rack which helps to add additional function to the piece. You can also choose a wine glass rack that has been designed as a companion piece to the wine rack so that both pieces can be used together in the same decor. When built as two separate units, there is more flexibility for placement which can be especially helpful in small spaces.

There are glass wine racks that are designed to be installed under an existing shelf or cabinet, which is another option that is very popular for wine lovers who are working with limited space. A wine glass rack that is mounted under a cabinet makes excellent use of space in a kitchen that is usually otherwise wasted. This arrangement can also add extra sparkle to the kitchen, with such a display of beautiful glassware.

One surprising way that some people use glass wine racks is to completely change the look and feel of the decor in the kitchen where they are on display. By simply displaying colored wine glasses instead of clear stemware, you can shift the whole tone of the kitchen to match a holiday or a special occasion.

As well as the wine glass racks that are designed to show off and feature your glassware collection, there are smaller racks available that are designed for the counter-top and hold only a few glasses, usually six at the most. In most cases these are intended to be used to facilitate drying the stemware and are really not designed for display purposes.

Wine Prices - How Are They Determined?

Wine is similar to any other type of trade that exists in the market. The final wine price is influenced by various factors such as the cost of production, how rare the product is as well as it's status and worth. Makers of wine have the option of whether to create their specific wines for low cost consumer consumption or at a more expensive cost.

The cost of wine is dictated through several factors:

- A producer of wine might elect to make their wine utilizing lower yields or higher yields (a yield is an expression that is used to assess the quantity of grapes or the volume of grape juice that is produced per geographic area). This helps to ensure the utilization of more robust flavored grapes.

- There are some wine makers that might choose to make their wine in oak barrels or concrete vats which adds a lot to the price of the wine.

- There are some makers of wine that might choose to have their fruit harvested by themselves by hand to lessen the cost of labor as well as the price of the associated machinery.

Most, if not all of these added costs will be recovered in the established final selling price when it is eventually sold. This gives some insight as to the reasons why a wine from a quality producer will consistently sell at a higher price compared to wine that is produced in bulk for consumers.

What's a better value; low cost or more expensive?

Wines that are high quality typically are more costly than lower quality wines. As already mentioned, the methods of growing and manufacturing process are a higher cost procedure hence wines of quality cannot be found at a low cost.

There have been time when it has been the experience for some makers of wine who, because of their eagerness to make more money on the sly, charge more for their wine than it is really worth, nevertheless, merchants who are more trustworthy vigorously watch out for customers value by not buying wines from these types of individuals.

Although wine that have more expensive wine prices tends to be known as being of better quality, the value is determined by the buyer, because everyone's tastes vary.

Quality wines are often allowed to mature over a long time period so that they can reach their best and full potential. When time passes and the wine itself is drunk by consumers, those wine bottles that are left in small numbers become very rare and become worth a great deal of money, with its worth increases year by year. Wines that are also rare and of great expense are wines that are made in small quantities each year.

At the end of the day, wine prices vary because of their production costs and time and material used to create them. If a persons passion is in quality wines, then they may be willing to pay for the rarity of an expensive bottle, yet for someone who is just in search of a bottle to go with a meal, less expensive bottles may be better suited; it all comes down to individual taste.

Build A Mini Home Wine Cellar

When you are passionate about wine you begin collecting it … and when you begin collecting it you need a place to store it.

A closet can easily be turned into a mini wine cellar to store your growing wine collection.

Before you start your wine cellar construction it is important to pay attention to the position of the cupboard in relation to the rest of the house.

Avoid converting a closet against an outside wall into a wine cellar. The outside walls of your house or apartment can be subject to wide fluctuations in temperature. Choose an internal closet where your wine can be stored in a more stable atmosphere.

The degree and the speed of any change in temperature are critical elements in successfully storing and aging wine. A gradual change of a few degrees between summer and winter won't matter. A similar change each day will harm your wines by ageing them too rapidly.

The major rule when in wine storage is to avoid wide fluctuations in temperature. You'll be aware of this damage straight away from the sticky deposit that often forms around the capsule. Over time the continual expansion and contraction of the wine will damage the integrity of the cork. It's similar to having the cork pulled in and out again every day. When this happens, minute quantities of wine may be pushed out along the edge of the cork (between the cork and the bottle neck) allowing air to seep back in. Once the air is in contact with your wine the irreversible process of oxidation begins and your wine is ruined.

At 55º to 58ºF the wine will age as intended, enabling it to fully develop. Higher temperatures will age wine more rapidly and cooler temperatures will slow the ageing process. Your wine will be irreversibly damaged if it is stored at a temperature above 82ºF for as little as a month.

The most difficult part of creating a wine cellar in a closet can be finding other places to store the original contents of the closet! Be strong ... remove all the present contents (give away / auction / move them) and start with an empty closet!

Purchase some inexpensive wine racks from a hardware store, online retailer or storage shop and you'll have a simple but very effective mini wine cellar.

Wine rack designs will vary in bottle density; price variations are more to do with aesthetics than efficiency.

Individual racking is the most convenient for selecting bottles. If you place racks against only one wall of the closet you may still have floor or shelf space available for wines that you purchase by the case.

Custom Wine Cellars - Ideal For Collectors With a Passion

Wine collecting is a pastime that is becoming increasingly popular. Many people use their vacation time to visit wine regions that are known for their fine products and enjoy tasting room samples which leads them to making more purchases of wines to add to their collections. The bottles people come home with are often their favorite souvenirs of their travels and as their collection expands they often start thinking they may need to consider custom wine cellars to handle it all.

The most important aspect of a custom wine cellar is that they are built to protect the wine collection from harm and damage. A custom wine cellar will also provide the perfect environment for dessert wines, red wines and white wines to be stored so they can continue to age and improve with each passing year they are in storage.

{Custom wine cellars allow fine wines to mature slowly, and in the right environmental conditions, they help to encourage the process that will bring about the best flavors and aromas in a vintage. This in turn helps to give each variety of wine its unique and delicate taste that wine connoisseurs so love to savor.Custom wine cellars allow fine wines to mature slowly while being in the right environment so that the best flavors, subtle undertones, and aromas are able to develop properly. It is this careful aging process that allows each vintage to end up with its unique taste that true wine aficionados appreciate and savor.Giving the fine vintages of wine the opportunity to mature slowly in custom wine cellars, with just the proper environmental situation, allows each wine to develop its own unique and subtle aromas, undertones and flavors. This results in the distinctive flavorings unique to that vintage that wine connoisseurs love to explore and relish.}

A custom wine cellar can vary greatly in size. Some of the largest that have been built hold collections of up to 50,000 bottles. Of course, not everyone has the kind of space in their home to accommodate a custom wine cellar of that size, but the reality is that the size is truly only limited by space constraints of the property and budget.

For those who don't have enough space, or who are renting, a good option is to look at wine storage cabinets. These cabinets come in many sizes to fit in most homes, either in the kitchen or dining area or even in a garage for the larger units. Many of these cabinets are finished in wood and are very attractive. They do need to be plugged in so that the environmental controls can function.

Building a custom wine cellar is an expensive undertaking, but for many serious wine collectors, or for those who invest in fine wines, it is simply the best option. While many people think that a custom cellar must be built in a basement area or has to be excavated, the reality is that almost any spare space in a home, from a large closet to an empty bedroom can be transformed into a wine cellar.

The space chosen for a custom wine cellar should be large enough that it will be able to hold all of your current wine collection plus allow for the expected growth of your collection. Once the room is chosen, a wine cellar cooling unit is installed to keep the room at a cool, stable temperature and to control the humidity. After that the wood wine racks are placed into the room and seals are installed and checked to be sure that the space is properly sealed to maintain the environment inside.

An option to building custom wine cellars is to engage the services of a wine storage facility. These storage companies specialize in providing secure storage and the perfect environment for your wine collection. Many of them also offer 24 hour accessibility, so you will always have ready access to your special wines.

Wine racks are an excellent way to show off your extensive collection of wines. You can display them throughout your dining room and any room of the house that you wish to show off. That vintage wine bottle will look fabulous in your new wine rack. There is no need to pay retail store prices though. You can find great deals online for the wine rack that best suits your needs. The wine rack will look great and serve the double purpose of protecting your precious bottle of wine. Click here for more information: Sweet Red Wine and at Wine Cellars

Wines of the World

Fine Wines From Around the World

Every day thousands of gallons of wine is produced and sold all over the world. Italy, Germany, France, and all the way to the USA; wine is still one of the most popular beverages in the world. At every fine restaurant, on every anniversary and dinner date; the perfect bottle of wine is in some cases a must. Scientists have found that wine can be traced back as far as 60 million years ago, and it was even mentioned in the bible. People liked it then, they like it now, and the demand keeps on swelling.

Where Did It All Start?

The wine of the world started millions of years ago, but where did it go from there? It has been spread across the globe, and is even sometimes taken daily for health purposes. The ancient Egyptians made their own wine, as did the Romans and many other ancient people. The Egyptians planted their grapes along the enormous Nile River. Their methods included stomping the grapes in large bowls in order to make wine. Though for most people when they think of wine they thing of Italy and France, wine is produced in many different countries such as Germany and Australia as well.

Varieties of Wine

Wines come in a variety of different brands, colors, and flavors. When you think of wine, you probably think of red or white wine. But, there are many different varieties to choose from. Rosé Wine that is sometimes made by mixing red wine and white wine is also quite popular all across the globe. Sparkling wine that contains carbon dioxide provides the characteristic bubbling effect.

Champagne is probably the most well known of this category. Fine desert wines are usually very sweet (hence the name desert wine), and table wine which contain much more alcohol than most wines at about 14%. Vintage wines too are popular. These are grown in the time span of a certain year, and are also popular with many collectors. Wine is also used for cooking - most cooking wines such as cooking sherry are basically an inexpensive wine that is not intended for drinking.

World Famous Wines

France is home to some of the most famous wines of the world  - from Chateau Margaux, Pétrus, to Romanée Conti. But, France is not the only place to find great wine. Italy is home to some of the best wines of the world including Chianti Classico, one of the most popular wines of Tuscany. In Germany, Deutscher Tafelwein is a popular wine, but is usually not sold outside the country, and therefore makes it exclusive to Germany. Other countries such as Asia also produce fine wines, but it is true that most people prefer the French and Italian brands.

How Wine is Made

Making wine is not an easy process, and involves a lot of hard work. The grapes are usually ripe by September, and are ready to be harvested. Many workers are needed for the harvesting job to make the perfect wine. Once the grapes are picked, they need to be sorted fast before spoiling. After this process, they are crushed and in the case of white wine, the skin and seeds are removed. Then the fermentation process begins after which the grape juice is placed in barrels where it will be aged for a few months, while occasionally being poured into another barrel to remove the remaining peeling and solids.

How To Hold A Wine Tasting

Hosting a wine tasting is a great way to sample and explore the wine growing regions of the world. Wine tasting involves the sensory evaluation of wine, and includes noticing the color and aroma, and the taste and feel of the wine on the palate with the aim of determining the quality of the wine and its suitability for drinking now or further aging. As you explore the characteristics of the wine you will uncover its many different facets and detect any flaws the wine might have. The other main aim of holding a wine tasting is to enjoy oneself.

In order to properly assess a wine’s quality, you need to gauge the overall complexity of its flavors and aromas. You'll pay attention to such factors as intensity of flavor, fruit characters, sweetness or acidity as well as noticing how long the flavor of the wine remains in the mouth after tasting which determines the length of the finish.

Wine tasting is a fun and enjoyable experience, and one that you should definitely try out for yourself if you have not already. You can either hold wine tasting in your own home or the home of someone you know, or you and a group can go in to one of the many companies that offer wine tasting sessions. If you have a home wine cellar, then holding a wine tasting is a wonderful way of entertaining fellow wine lovers.

If you don't feel comfortable in choosing the wines yourself for the tasting there are companies that offer to organize these events for you. If you'd prefer to taste the wines from just one wine region you can arrange a tasting at a vineyard. An well organized wine tasting event will be both enjoyable and educational.

Holding a wine tasting party will add depth to your existing wine knowledge, give you an opportunity to taste a range of wines, learn about wine cellaring techniques and wine growing regions.

Absinthe Green Fairy - Get The real Thing

Absinthe Green Fairy is an alcoholic drink with an interesting history. Developed as an elixir or tonic in the 18th century it is now one of the most controversial and famous drinks of all time.

Absinthe is an anise flavored spirit which is incredibly strong, between 45 and 75% Alcohol by volume. It is emerald green in color, hence the name “Green Fairy” or in French “La Fee Verte”. It is a distilled liquor made from herbs. The three main herbs tend to be wormwood (Artemisia Absinthium), green aniseed and fennel (fennell). Henri-Louis Pernod, who first commercially distilled Absinthe, used other herbs such as hyssop, lemon balm, nutmeg, juniper, veronica, star anise and dittany to produce his famous original Pernod Absinthe recipe. Other ingrediants such as the herb calamus were used by some manufacturers and this herb along with wormwood and nutmeg were though to be psychoactive. It is the essential oil extract from the herbs which causes Absinthe to louche when iced water is poured over the sugar on the Absinthe spoon. The oils are not water soluble and so cause the Absinthe to cloud or louche.

Absinthe Green Fairy and the Art World

Absinthe is famous for inspiring many artists and writers associated with the Bohemian culture of the Montmartre area of Paris. Famous Absinthe drinkers include Vincent Van Gough, Pablo Picasso, Paul Gauguin, Charles Baudelaire, Edgar Degas, Ernest Hemingway and Oscar Wilde. Many writers and artists were convinced that Absinthe gave them inspiration and gave them their genius. Painters like Van Gogh and Picasso even featured Absinthe and Absinthe drinkers in their paintings.

Absinthe's association with old Montmartre, the Moulin Rouge and the Bohemian sect, was just the excuse that prohibition campaigners needed. Once it was linked with the murder of a family and the growing problem of alcohol addiction in France it was easy for campaigners to get the sale of Absinthe made illegal and it was banned in France in 1915. Other countries also banned it but it remained legal in the Czech Republic, the UK, Spain and Portugal.

The chemical thujone, present in wormwood, was blamed for the psychedelic effects of drinking the Green Fairy. Thujone was thought to be similar to THC in cannabis. However Absinthe is mainly alcohol, ethanol, and therefore only contains minute quanitities of thujone. Research has shown that Absinthe is just as safe as any other strong liquor and that it is the alcohol content not the thujone that is dangerous. Many studies and articles have been written on the subject. If you remember that it is about twice as strong as vodka or whisky and drink it with care and in moderation, it is simply a drink which gives pleasure.

During the time of prohibition many people enjoyed buying and drinking vintage style Absinthe in Absinthe bars in the Czech Republic, served in the classic Absinthe large glasses and in surroundings decorated with vintage Absinthe posters. Now, in 2008, Absinthe is legal in many countries although thujone levels are controlled in the EU and the United States only allows Absinthe with trace amounts of thujone to be bought and sold.

You can buy Absinthe online by the bottle or order Absinthe essences (visit the website AbsintheKit.com) to make your own Absinthe Green Fairy to bottle at home. Real Absinthe and Absinthe essences contain the vital ingredient wormwood but some new Absinthes, produced for the US market, do not contain thujone.

Absinthe Green Fairy is a delicious spirit and can be used in cocktails too – mix with champagne for a truly decadent drink!

A Guide To Wine Drinking Glasses Could Help You Enjoy And Better Your Wine Drinking Experience

The type of glass in which wine is traditionally served has a specific shape that is fairly easy to recognize and that also serves a specific purpose. However, there are several different types of wine glass, all suited to a different type of wine. The slight differences between the shapes of these glasses are not simply cosmetic considerations but are meant to enhance the drinker’s experience of whichever type of wine is intended to be served in them.

The Shape Of A Wine Glass

The distinctive shape of a wine glass sets it apart from an ordinary table glass or cup and is most easily recognized as a large, curved bowl atop a long, slender stem. The stem of the wine glass prevents the drinker’s fingers from coming into contact with the bowl. If the drinker were to hold the bowl, the glass would conduct the person’s body temperature into the wine and cause the wine to become warmer than the server intended. For wines that are served chilled, such as champagne, this consideration of temperature is of particular importance and necessitates a long stem. White wines other than champagne are also served chilled and will frequently be served in a wine glass that has an especially long stem.

The bowl element of a wine glass also owes its form to its function. You’ll notice that the bowl of a wine glass seems biggish compared with the amount of wine in a single serving, such that a glass of wine is traditionally filled to only a fraction of its capacity. The cause for this might be obvious to anyone who's witnessed a wine tasting demonstration. An expert wine taster will sample the wine’s aroma before actually taking a sip, swirling the wine in the glass to saturate the air near the surface of the wine with the wine’s fragrance. The bowl allows the wine to have a relatively large surface area, which enables the wine to breathe, while the sides of the bowl contain the aroma-infused air. Red wines, which are typically served at more or less room temperature, can be served in glasses with large bowls. Because the aroma instead of the temperature is the important factor with a red wine, the emphasis in choice of wine glasses should be on the size of the bowl rather than the length of the stem.

After selecting the right wine glass for the type of wine that you plan to serve, you still have one final step. It is important that any wine glasses be immaculately clean. A gentle cleansing with warm, soapy water is enough to rid most wine glasses of any dirt or residue, but a last rinse with a diluted vinegar solution will also go a long way toward removing any soap deposits and giving your glasses a perfect shine. Your clean glasses should be stored where they will not be smudged with fingerprints, and you might even wish to handle your clean glasses with a napkin. With these tips, you can be sure that your wine glasses will provide the perfect presentation for your wine selection.
